EMA Trading Bot: Automate EMA Without Code

Turn EMA rules into an automation that trades on its own budget. Backtest it, run it on paper, then let it trade live on your exchange.

What EMA (Exponential Moving Average) measures

An EMA is an average of recent prices that gives more weight to the latest candles, so it turns faster than a simple moving average (SMA, also available). Price above a rising EMA is the simplest definition of an uptrend there is.

In the builder you compare the price to an EMA ("Price is above EMA (200)") or one moving average to another ("EMA (9) crosses above EMA (21)"). The EMA Spread % shows how far a fast EMA is from a slow one, as a number.

Defaults in TradeFIQ: 20 periods; any period up to 200.

Example: Classic moving-average crossover

Here's a EMA strategy exactly as you'd set it up in the builder. No code, just conditions.

Enter when (all true)Exit when
  • EMA (9) crosses above EMA (21)
  • Price is above EMA (200)
  • EMA (9) crosses below EMA (21)
  • or stop-loss at -3%

Why it's built this way: The fast/slow crossover times the entry, and the 200 EMA keeps the strategy on the right side of the bigger trend. It will be late to every move, and that's fine: trend following makes its money on the few big ones.

This is a starting point to test, not a recommendation to trade. Backtest it on your pair, then let it run with paper money for a while before you give it real capital.

Common EMA mistakes

  • Running a crossover strategy in a range. It will buy high and sell low repeatedly.
  • Using averages that are too close together (like 9 and 12). You'll get crossovers on every wiggle.
  • Judging it on win rate alone. Trend strategies often win less than half the time and still come out ahead.

Automating it with TradeFIQ

Once the rules are set, an automation runs them on your schedule (every 15 minutes, hourly, daily and so on) on the exchange you choose. It sizes every trade from the budget you give it, never your whole balance, and applies your stop-loss and take-profit from the moment the trade opens.

If you want to tighten a stop on a trade that's already open, you can edit the live trade's rules without closing the position. And the same EMA strategy can be reused by any number of automations, on any of our supported exchanges.

Frequently asked questions

Can I build a EMA trading bot without coding?

Yes. In the strategy builder you pick EMA from a list, choose a condition (for example "crosses above" or "is below") and what to compare it with, and add any other conditions you want. No scripts or formulas.

What EMA settings does TradeFIQ use?

By default: 20 periods; any period up to 200. You can change them per strategy.

Can I combine EMA with other indicators?

Yes. A strategy can require several conditions at once, compare one indicator to another (like EMA (9) crossing EMA (21)), and add an optional scoring layer where extra indicators carry different weights.

Does a EMA strategy work on every coin?

Not the same way. Indicators behave differently across pairs and timeframes, so backtest the exact pair and timeframe you plan to trade, then run it on paper before going live.
